Artist’s website

This exhibition presented more than 10 years of work of peruvian-brazilian artist Nydia Negromonte.

Nydia Negromonte's body of work consists of drawings, prints, photographs, and in-situ installations. These works are created taking into account the characteristics of the spaces, the climate and context of the location where they will be exhibited, as well as the artist's relationship with them. The creation process for many of these works began with an investigation of the spaces to be intervened and continued in the exhibition space, integrating with the environment and with the participation of the people who passed through them. The changes that occur in these works, composed mostly of natural elements such as earth, air, and vegetation, generate new interpretations over time and create a certain tension between the body and the inhabited space, thus revealing their own systems and vital cycles.

As part of the process of organizing and curating her show, I visited her studio in Minas Gerais - Brazil, were I learned more on the context her work was produced. In Lima, I supported the production of some of her works in situ, as well as leading the museographic design, and writing the curatorial text.
